Weekly Newsletter Week of September 23, 2024 | | |

| | | | Dear Fairvalley Families,
I am thrilled to share some exciting opportunities that Fairvalley High School students are actively participating in as they work toward their academic and career goals. Two of our students are currently preparing a project for submission to the Excelencia de Ingeniería Conference at Cal Poly Pomona, an event sponsored by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). This STEM-focused conference will take place on Saturday, March 15, where they will compete in an Engineering Design Challenge, developing a prototype aimed at improving fire safety in buildings. We are incredibly proud of their dedication to innovation and problem-solving!
Additionally, two Fairvalley students have applied for the Youth Work Preparation Certificate Program through Kaiser Permanente. This program runs from March 15 to April 26, 2025, preparing students for careers in the healthcare industry. Upon completion, participants will be eligible for a paid summer internship with Kaiser, offering them valuable real-world experience in a growing field.
I also want to take a moment to celebrate the success of our Fairvalley students enrolled in ADJU 1 (Administration of Justice). The results of their first exam are in, and we are proud to announce that 15 out of 19 students passed! This is a testament to their commitment and hard work in this college-level course.
Lastly, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Trade Tech/Adult Ed Principal Maddox for organizing a special trip for our counselors to explore the incredible Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways available to Fairvalley students. Programs in welding, HVAC, and metal fabrication offer hands-on training that leads to high-demand careers, and we are excited about the opportunities these pathways provide. Be sure to check out some of the photos we’ve highlighted in this newsletter!
Thank you for your continued support in encouraging our Fairvalley students to explore new opportunities, stay engaged, and strive for success. Let’s keep up the momentum and make this a great semester!
Best, Rebecca Handzel Principal, Fairvalley High School | | | | | This National School Counseling Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible counselor, Mrs. Lopez, for the unwavering dedication, compassion, and support she provides to our students every day. At our school, we are truly fortunate to have someone who goes above and beyond to ensure our students are on the right path—both academically and in their future careers.
Mrs. Lopez spends countless hours meeting with students to discuss college and career pathways, trade programs, and workforce opportunities, always helping them see their potential and take the next steps toward their goals. She listens, guides, and empowers, making sure every student has the resources and encouragement they need to create the future they envision for themselves. Whether it’s assisting with applications, providing career advice, or simply offering a reassuring voice, her impact is immeasurable.
Beyond planning for life after high school, Mrs. Lopez also plays a critical role in helping students recover credits and stay on track for graduation. She understands that every student's journey is unique, and she works tirelessly to ensure they have the support needed to overcome challenges and move forward. Thanks to her dedication, so many of our students have been able to earn back credits, graduate on time, and pursue bigger and brighter opportunities.
Mrs. Lopez is more than just a counselor—she is a mentor, an advocate, and a true champion for our students. Her kindness, patience, and belief in every student make a difference in their lives every single day. Our school would not be the same without her, and we are beyond grateful for all that she does! Please join us in thanking Mrs. Lopez for her hard work and celebrating her this week! | | | | This week, we recognized our outstanding students who have demonstrated dedication and hard work by earning Attendance and Student of the Month awards. As a reward for their efforts, these students enjoyed an extended brunch schedule and a special pizza party to celebrate their commitment to academic success. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing even more students reach their goals in the coming months!
Attending school every day is essential for success. Consistent attendance not only helps students stay on track with coursework but also plays a crucial role in earning credits and progressing toward graduation. Missing even a few days can make it difficult to catch up and impact future opportunities. We encourage all students to make daily attendance a priority and ask families to support and motivate their students in getting to school on time each day. Together, we can ensure that every student stays on the path to success! | | | | | | | | Mental Health & Wellness ResourcesWe are committed to supporting the well-being of our students and families. Health and Resource Referral Form School-Based Mental Health Referral Form | | | | | We are excited to announce that CPR and AED training is coming to Fairvalley High School, and all students have the opportunity to earn their certification—for free!
This training is not just a valuable skill to have; it can be life-saving. Knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) gives you the ability to act in emergencies, help others, and make a difference in your community. Plus, CPR/AED certification is a fantastic addition to your resume, showing future employers or colleges your readiness to step up when it matters most.
Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! All interested students should sign up with Ms. Christine as soon as possible to secure your spot. Let’s work together to build a safer and more prepared school community! | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This week, we are excited to welcome back students from Azusa Pacific University’s Kinesiology Department as they begin their spring rotation with ATP. Throughout the semester, they will be on campus weekly, working alongside their professor to engage our students in movement-based activities that promote physical well-being, inclusion, and overall engagement.
This partnership provides our students with valuable opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence, and participate in interactive experiences tailored to their abilities. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have as it continues through April. | | | | | Demitra Christine Demitra is using Smore to create beautiful newsletters |
