English | Spanish | Simplified ChineseHow to Talk to Your Child About Coronavirus
When our children and youth watch news about COVID-19 on television or social media they can feel scared, confused, or anxious. It is important that the adults in their lives provide support to help them manage these feelings. Here are some helpful tips for caregivers, parents, and teachers.

Dear Covina-Valley Unified Students, Staff, Families, and Community:
The health and safety of our students and staff will always be one of our top priorities. We continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 closely and adjust our practices and keep our community up to date as we learn new information. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate this unique and evolving situation.
The LA Department of Public Health recommended today that the public plan for the possibility of “social distancing,” including business and school closures and cancelation of public events. The health department made it very clear that this is a call for preparedness.
Right now the most important thing is to do what we know works:
- Stay home if you are sick – even mildly sick.
- If your child is sick, please keep them home from school.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.
- Get vaccinated every year.
We must work together to keep our community healthy and safe by practicing good hygiene, keeping up to date with current information, and combating the spread of false information. We will continue to update our Covina-Valley Unified School District Website, with current information and resources. You can also visit the CDC or Los Angeles County Department of Public Health websites for reliable information.
