Mr. Chris Deegan

A well known African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” The staff and faculty at Workman are honored to be a facet of this village; however, we recognize that the most important part of this village is the family. What you do as parents will have the most significant impact on your child’s academic and social development. Therefore, we value our partnership with you, our strong sense of community, and our collective role as a large extended family.

At Workman, learning is our daily priority.  Our schoolwide instructional focus is Reading Comprehension! Our staff and faculty are utilizing research-based instructional strategies to ensure that all Workman students demonstrate significant measurable growth in their ability to read and comprehend grade-level text. Two practices that we see implemented daily in the classroom are teaching close reading strategies and utilizing Thinking Maps to increase reading comprehension. Every area of learning is important at Workman, but Reading Comprehension is invaluable for our students to grow into the lifelong learners that we expect.

It is with the utmost excitement and enthusiasm that we continue our partnership with Code to the Future to offer a fully embedded computer science curriculum for all of our students from Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade. The language of computers, or coding, will be our students’ second language. We look forward to having our families and community members join us each trimester at our Epic Builds to showcase the skills and knowledge that our students have attained in the area of computer science.

Workman has a strong history of academic success and a tradition of providing our students with rich educational experiences. It is a distinct honor and privilege for me to be a part of this fantastic school community and to work with the most outstanding staff and faculty around.

I always enjoy meeting with our Workman families throughout the year, so please know that my door is always open. I believe that our communication is vital to Workman’s continued growth and success. If you need anything, please feel free to visit with me, or contact me at the number or email listed below.

Again, I am grateful and honored to serve at a school site where love and compassion are shared values amongst all of our faculty and staff. We deeply care for the children at Workman, and we will do whatever it takes to help your child reach his or her greatest potential and success in life.

I am looking forward to an exceptional year!
