Dear Merwin Families,

One of the most important components of an exceptional school like Merwin Elementary School is the partnership between home and school.  We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to develop our partnership in a wide variety of ways.  Families can join PTA, volunteer in the classroom, attend School Site Council meetings, or participate in one of many other events or activities that make our school a special place for our students to learn. It is truly a privilege to be part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth.

Merwin is a proud member of the No Excuses University network of schools, which means from the youngest to the oldest students, we incorporate a college-ready mindset. Every classroom on our campus represents a college or university and students learn about college and career opportunities throughout the year.  The most important part of this mindset is the idea that there are no excuses for why a student should not have the ability and the opportunity to go to college one day.  We believe and are committed to a culture of universal achievement--we know all children can learn and will if we do everything within our power to meet their needs.  Our staff is also committed to the art of collaboration, standards alignment, using assessment and data to drive our instruction, and providing appropriate interventions or enrichment when necessary.  We are proud to have been given the California Gold Ribbon Award for our implementation of the NEU philosophy.

I am privileged to be part of the dedicated and professional staff at Merwin.  As we journey through this year together, I trust this is going to be an amazing year full of fun, new relationships, and learning for all of us.
