Code to the Future
Covina-Valley Unified School District has partnered with Code To The Future, the nation’s leading Computer Science program for Magnet Schools, to close the science gap by opening Computer Science Magnet Programs at all schools in C-VUSD. All students will have an opportunity to develop coding skills as part of the daily curriculum.
The partnership comes as a small but growing number of schools around the country are using computer science and games like Minecraft to help students learn everything from math to language skills. The White House has recognized the Code To The Future program as the leader in Computer Science Magnet Schools. Covina-Valley Unified School District is helping to lead the way in capitalizing on Minecraft’s potential as a teaching tool.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of computer and information technology occupations will grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
“Covina-Valley is poised to become a leader in Computer Science Education for the entire Los Angeles area and a key player nationally,” Andrew Svehaug, CEO of Code To The Future, said. “We are excited about the partnership.”
