Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
-
The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program provides and supports unique opportunities for those students whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are exceptional or developmentally advanced. C-VUSD’s GATE program sets high expectations and affords students extensive arenas in which to use their individual strengths and distinctive capabilities to be challenged, enriched and successful. A variety of learning strategies are presented whereby the capacity for excellence is extended. Integrated and differentiated learning experiences, focused on the exploration of the core curriculum in greater depth and complexity, are a part of the regular school day.
Covina-Valley Unified School District provides a multitude of programs, classes, and extra-curricular activities designed to help challenge high achieving students. With over 24 Advanced Placement courses, Academic Scholars Academies, International Baccalaureate Program, Project Lead the Way, and Pre-Advanced Placement courses, students are given a wide range of opportunities to excel academically and prepare for college. Classes require the type of high-level calculating and critical thinking that students will encounter during their first year of college.
The GATE Advisory Committee oversees the program and meets twice a year.
