Attendance

  • CLEARING ABSENCES

When a student is absent from school, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the Attendance Office by telephone or written note within three days of the absence.

The Attendance Office phone number is (626) 974-6100.

An absence not cleared within two days may be considered unexcused.  Students will be assigned detention hours for truancies, unexcused absences, and tardies.  Students with excessive absences may be subject to meetings and/or contracts with the School Attendance Review Team (SART) or School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

    ATTENDANCE POLICY

It is important for students and parents/guardians to be aware of the Northview High School Attendance Policy. Students are expected to arrive on time for every class and remain in class for the entire period.  Students who come to class late disrupt the learning atmosphere for all students in that classroom.  Every student's attendance will be reviewed regularly and detention hours will be assigned as appropriate.

Uncleared absences result in assigned detention hours as follows:

    • All day - 4 hours
    • Single period - 1 hour for each period up to 4 hours

Tardies result in assigned detention hours as follows:

    • Every tardy after the 3rd tardy to any period - 30 minutes for each tardy

Hours may be served only in detention or at Saturday Academic School (student must stay for entire four hours).  Students may not attend special events if they owe hours.

    SATURDAY ACADEMIC SCHOOL

Students who owe "hours" or who need additional academic support beyond the school day may attend Saturday Academic School.  Attending a SAS will clear any unexcused or excused absence for that student as well as the hours assigned for that day.
A list of teachers and classrooms will be posted on the Friday before a scheduled SAS.
