- Poor Diet / Hunger, Lack of Exercise
- Chronic and Acute Illnesses
- Sleep Deprivation and Irregular Sleep Schedule
- Poor Hygiene
- Stress, Anxiety and other mental health disorders
- Communicable Diseases, Access to Healthcare
- Smoking, Alcohol, and Drug Use
Health Services and Direct Care
- Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and sudden illnesses that occur during school hours.
- Manage chronic and acute conditions by creating health care plans and monitoring students' health status.
- Administer medications to students and perform specialized health procedures following California state regulations and school district policies.
- Conduct routine health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and oral health checks, and refer students for follow-up care when necessary.
Health Assessments and Health Condition Management
- Develop Health Care Plans for students with chronic conditions at the discretion of the school nurse (RN) (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures).
- Train and supervise school staff on managing specific health needs
- Serve as a team member in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans for students with special health needs, and being a part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Advocate for appropriate accommodations related to health in the educational environment.
- Provide health education to students, staff, and parents
