Health Examination for School Entry:

A comprehensive physical examination and health assessment are recommended for all students on school entry. The Health Examination for School Entry is recommended to be completed within 18 months prior to the student starting first grade or within 90 days after the student enters first grade. The health examination is given at an early age to detect problems that may interfere with learning. Early identification and treatment are important because an undetected health problem could hamper a child's progress in school. 

The health examination includes a nutritional history, a complete physical examination, tests for anemia, urine analysis, tuberculosis skin test, and vision and hearing screening.

Oral Health Assessment:

To make sure your child is ready for school, California law now requires that your child have an oral health assessment by May 31 of your child's first year in public school. Assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. (This assessment does not apply to TK.) An oral health assessment is important because poor oral health can affect a child's attendance, grades, and overall performance in school. C-VUSD strives to provide free dental screenings for kindergarten students throughout the school year. We make every effort to organize these screenings to ensure the oral health of our students. Vision and Hearing Screenings:

Screening of the student's vision and hearing will be done at the school site in accordance with the California State mandate. Health Services will screen Kindergarten, Second, Fifth, and Eighth grade students during the regular school year. Parents/guardians will be notified of any findings as a result of the mandated screening test that require further attention. If at any time during the school year you have any concerns with your child's vision or hearing, please consult with your student's school health services staff member.
