The Covina-Valley Unified Board of Education is comprised of five elected representatives from the communities served by the school district. Each Board member serves a four-year term. The Board is the governing body of the school district. In addition to representing the viewpoints of the many constituency groups served by the Covina-Valley schools, the Board also reflects upon school issues, adopts policies and procedures for efficient and safe operation of schools, employs personnel, delegates authority and responsibility to district office and school officials, and sets the strategic course of the district.

Maria E. Cruz, DSW,
PresidentTrustee Area 3
Dr. Maria Cruz, a devoted mother of three wonderful students within the Covina-Valley Unified School District's educational community, has a deep passion for creating nurturing and inspiring learning environments. This commitment led Dr. Cruz to take on the role of a school board member. With her background in Licensed Clinical Social Work and a strong commitment to mental health, wellness, and education, she offers a unique and valuable perspective to the board.
In addition to her responsibilities as a school board member, Dr. Cruz also serves as a clinical supervisor for a prominent organization and earned a Doctor of Social Work degree from Loma Linda University. Her academic journey has intensified her dedication to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, mentally, and emotionally. She is an advocate for women and higher education.
Dr. Cruz is particularly enthusiastic about enhancing the District's approach to education and promoting a holistic understanding of wellness that encompasses both the academic and mental health aspects of students. Recognizing the importance of collaboration between the board, educators, parents, and the community, as both a parent and an education advocate, she is committed to fostering an inclusive dialogue that supports growth, innovation, and the overall well-being of all students. Dr. Maria Cruz is excited to contribute her skills, insights, and unwavering passion to the continuous improvement of the educational system within the District.

Sue L. Maulucci,
Vice PresidentTrustee Area 1
Sue Maulucci was born and raised in Covina and proudly graduated from Northview High School. Family has always held a special place in her heart, and she's delighted that her husband and children are also Northview Alumni, sharing in their community's rich heritage.
Sue's commitment to local schools has been unwavering. Over the years, she has been actively involved in the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at multiple levels. She has served in various leadership positions for Merwin, Las Palmas, Northview, and the Council, including a term as President. Her dedication extends to multiple committees across all three schools and the District, where she has worked to shape the educational experience for children.
Additionally, Sue has proudly contributed to the community as a member of the Bond Oversight Committee and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Committee. These roles allowed her to ensure accountability and maintain high educational standards in the district.
Professionally, Sue has been employed for 35 years by a local dentistry practice in Covina. This experience has given her a unique perspective on the community's needs and a deep appreciation for its residents.
Sue is a strong advocate for the progress made in the district and is dedicated to continuing the journey toward providing the best possible education for every child every day.
Beyond her professional and community commitments, Sue cherishes spending quality time with her family. They enjoy biking, camping, and exploring the mountains and beaches. She is also passionate about pottery, and creating art with her hands brings her immense joy.
Ultimately, Sue's life is guided by the principle of giving back to the community that has given so much to her and her family. She is truly passionate about ensuring a bright future for the children and is committed to making a positive impact on the community.

Rachael Robles,

Rachael Robles has been an unwavering advocate for students in the Covina-Valley Unified School District since joining the Board of Education in 2018. With a deep-rooted passion for education and a strong commitment to the community, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that all students, especially those with special needs, have the opportunity to thrive.
Prior to her role on the Board, Mrs. Robles worked as a dedicated healthcare professional, gaining invaluable experience in caring for individuals of all ages. Her current position as a Specialized Health Aide in another school district further strengthens her understanding of the unique challenges and needs of students, particularly those receiving Special Education services.
Mrs. Robles’ unwavering support for students with special needs is evident in her tireless efforts to ensure they receive the necessary resources and support to reach their full potential and meet their goals. She is a passionate advocate for early literacy programs, recognizing their critical role in setting students on a path to success.
Beyond her focus on special education and early literacy, Mrs. Robles is also a strong supporter of the Covina High School agriculture program. She believes in the importance of providing students with hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and a connection to the natural world. A tireless advocate for CTE, Mrs. Robles understands the importance of these programs in fostering student engagement and preparing them for a successful transition to higher education or the workforce
A devoted mother and wife, Mrs. Robles is proud of her adult son who is currently attending a local college. Her personal experiences have shaped her commitment to providing students with the opportunities and support they need to achieve their goals.
Rachael is a firm believer in fiscal transparency and responsibility, ensuring that the district's resources are used effectively and efficiently. She takes great pride in the district's accomplishments and is committed to continuing its tradition of excellence.

Simon Wright,
MemberTrustee Area 4
Mr. Wright, a native of Covina, has deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to its educational excellence. He is a proud alumnus of Covina-Valley Schools and is a graduate from South Hills High School. His dedication to education led him to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Supply Chain Management, from the University of San Diego.
Currently, Mr. Wright serves as the Vice President of his family-owned property management business and is a licensed real estate broker specializing in sales and management throughout Southern California. His professional background, combined with personal ties to Covina, has allowed him to establish and nurture lasting relationships within the community.
Mr. Wright values open communication with his community and recognizes the vital role he plays as a Board Member for the Covina-Valley Unified School District. Mr. Wright has children attending schools in the district, and he is dedicated to the district's success and committed to ensuring a top-quality education for all students.
