The school’s teachers and staff are dedicated to ensuring the academic success and social development of each student by providing for a safe, and rigorous learning experience that will prepare students for success in high school and beyond. The school is proud to have been recognized as a California Distinguished School in spring 2001 and 2007, a California School of Character in 2016, Honor Roll School in 2017 and 2021, California School to Watch in 2019 and 2022, and California School of Promising Practice in 2022.

Our motto, “Falcons Soar” reflects not only our school mascot but also the expectation that our students are high-achieving as they progress from 6th through 8th grades and beyond. We strive to ensure students are prepared for 21st-century learning not only through, the access and use of technology but also through a rigorous academic instructional program that incorporates a variety of learning experiences, including collaboration with other students and outside projects.

SVMS offers a variety of programs to support student achievement and involvement. Our academic focus is CRITICAL THINKING. Our school-wide strategies include the implementation of Thinking Maps and a variety of levels of Depth of Knowledge questioning, activities, and assessments. Academic experience may include regular and honors classes in the four core subject areas, 8th-grade Pre-AP US History courses, Algebra, Geometry, and grade-level math. To support all learners, we also provide English Language Development classes for students not yet proficient in English, Special Academic Instruction for students needing additional support in learning grade-level standards, and a comprehensive program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. We also provide a variety of enrichment courses, including Spanish, Leadership, Yearbook, Robotics, Band, and Choir. In addition, students have access to intervention classes to ensure mastery of state and common core standards, in both math and English language arts. There are many after-school sports as well as volunteer/outreach opportunities for students to join.

Sierra Vista offers an "open door" to all parents and students needing assistance. Administrators, teachers, and support personnel are quick to respond to all student needs. We believe each student deserves to learn in a place that is supportive and caring, yet challenging. Our students come first!
