• Education and training in the Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Repair of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in your home and as foundational training and certification for pre-employment students seeking a career in the HVAC trades. This course is also suitable for those newly employed who desire to increase their knowledge of troubleshooting HVAC equipment. The training will provide familiarization and pre-employment skills in theory, concepts and hands-on application of information necessary to maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification will be included for all students, which is required to purchase and safely handle refrigerants. The EPA Universal Card is especially desirable for individuals pursuing a career in the HVAC trades now or in the future. The EPA Card is a life-time certification. This is a basic course designed for everyone who wants to learn about the repair of heating and air conditioning equipment and no prior experience is necessary. This course is articulated with Mt. San Antonio College for students who wish to pursue higher education. The training will incorporate information and application skills from the following topic areas:
    • Safety skills involving tools, equipment, refrigerant and electricity
    • Component identification, function, testing and sequence of operation
    • HVAC flows of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity and Refrigerant
    • Understanding the science of the Refrigeration Cycle
    • Proper use of electrical meters, recovery, and charging equipment
    • Recovery of refrigerant and charging Air Conditioning equipment
    • Wiring of an Air Conditioning unit and Heat Pump without a diagram
    • Digital thermostat functions, setup, programming and wiring
    • Setup and use of copper pipe welding equipment and techniques
    • Common causes of home HVAC system breakdowns and repairs
    • Preventive maintenance procedures for HVAC systems
